The Minnesota NOW Political Action Committee (PAC) screens candidates who request a screening with the MN NOW PAC. They can be a candidate in any MN state or local election. Here are ratings to date. Minnesota NOW formed a Political Action Committee in 1982. Since that time, we have endorsed and supported candidates who will work to advance Minnesota NOW’s issues. Candidates generally contact us to solicit endorsement through our screening process. Candidates are rated on the basis of their statements, record and leadership on Minnesota NOW’s legislative priorities. The Minnesota NOW PAC’s primary emphases are:
PAC Ratings Scale:
A—Endorsed: Applicant supports NOW's position on the following six issues: reproductive rights, CEA (Constitutional Equity Amendment (a/k/a ERA), eliminating racism, freedom from violence, lesbian /gay/bisexual/transgender rights, and opposition to punitive welfare reform and has shown leadership on feminist issues.
B—Supported:Applicant supports NOW's position on the issues above, but has not demonstrated strong leadership on feminist issues or supports five of the issues listed above and has shown leadership on feminist issues.
C—Fair: Applicant supports NOW’s position on four of the six issues above and is supportive of feminist issues in general.
D—Poor: Applicant opposes NOW’s stand on two or more of the issues listed above.
F—Rejected: Applicant opposes NOW’s stand on two or more of the issues listed above, and/or takes prominent leadership in opposition to any of NOW’s issues.
NR–No Rating:The PAC feels the applicant is unsuitable in any way.
