CALENDAR
OCTOBER 2011
10/1 Sat. SlutWalk Minneapolis
We're adding our voices in Minneapolis
by walking in positive protest against the stereotype of "what you
wear is what you deserve". It doesn't matter what a person is
wearing. There is no excuse for sexual assault/rape. It's time to
change the Rape Culture. It's time to put the old stereotypes to
rest. Join us for an evening of solidarity, regardless of sexual
orientation, gender, age, religion, or any other "label." Everyone
is welcome to walk with us. Dressing up isn't required. Wear
whatever is comfortable, whether it's high heels, a corset, and a
skirt, or a business shirt and pants. Maybe you want to wear jeans
and a t shirt. We're all allies, survivors, friends, and family.

Sponsor: Join the Impact - Twin Cities. The fight for full marriage equality goes beyond an election next year as does the continuing fight for full rights for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) people. Opponents of equality, by scapegoating LGBT people, immigrants, women and other marginalized communities, pursue a "divide and rule" agenda to prevent the rise of a united mass movement for full civil and economic rights for all.
NOVEMBER 2011
11/10 Thurs. Uptown NOW Chapter Meeting & Book Club. 6:30 p.m.
Hosmer Library - 347 E 36th Street - Minneapolis, MN 55408 in Lower Level meeting Room. We ask that our members become familiar with the poem My Short Skirt from Even Engler's Vagina Monologues. (This link is one of many postings of this poem.) This is a poem that speaks to "decriminalizing" the choice of what clothing women wear, a theme for the recent SlutWalk movement (This link goes to the Minneapolis site). We also encourage you to bring in your own poem or short work that expresses a similar idea. We will share our selections in a group setting. FFI: Gina Schedivy or Uptown NOW Facebook Page
