To March, Rally or Stay Home?
By Claire Peirce Did you see me on C-SPAN on April 30th at the Millennium March on Washington for Gay/Lesbian/Bi-sexual/Transgender Equality? I bet not, since I saw no TV cameras just a lot of happy people enjoying sunshine and good company. I hope you did catch some of the coverage of the day on C-SPAN. Theyre the best source for hearing the speeches. Being on-site is best for feeling the auraand it was special on the Mall that day. I would have loved to have had the sun-screen concession (if there had been one.) My sister told me, Claire, if you believed in God, you would know she supports this cause just by looking at the sky. 750,000 people agreed. Some people questioned the wisdom of a national action. I think it is vital for the non-political masses to see that the GBLT community is a microcosm of the rest of America. It comes in all shapes, sizes, ages, shades. Its members are moms, dads, sisters, brothers, aunts, uncles, grandmas, grandpas, daughters and sons, the guy down the hall, the woman on the bus. All they want (the Gay Agenda) is to live their lives like everyone else without fear of violence or losing their homes or jobs because of who they are. Marches and rallies are a great way to get a message out, especially now that C-SPAN covers them. |
