State PAC endorses five candidates
The MN NOW PAC has rated five candidates for the 2000 elections: Michelle Basham, State Rep., District 58A: A The A rating is given when a candidate supports MN NOWs six core issues and has shown leadership in one or more of these areas. The core issues are: ratification of an unamended Equal Rights Amendment, a repeal of all laws restricting safe, legal abortion, protection of lesbian/gay/bisexual/transgender civil rights, eliminating racism, freedom from violence and opposition to punitive welfare reform. If there are candidates in your area who you think should be endorsed by the PAC encourage them to call the MN NOW office for a questionnaire. The MN NOW PAC cannot rate federal candidates, but we can make recommendations to the National NOW PAC. The PAC is encouraging all of the Minnesota Senate Candidates to fill out a questionnaire for review. The PAC does get requests for help during campaign season. If there are any volunteers out there who would like to get active in campaign activities this summer and fall please contact the MN NOW office. The MN NOW PAC is anticipating a busy 2000 election season and has been fund-raising to support candidates. The Fall 99 fund-raiser brought in approximately $1,500. Thank you to all who donated. In addition the MN NOW PAC will be sponsoring a food table at the State Conference. Snacks, beverages, and box lunches will be provided for sale to our members at a nominal cost. All proceeds will be donated to the MN NOW PAC. |
